95(ish) Theses

Yo, so this beginning part is me--Dominic--and the last part will also be me. I do have an anonymous guest bloggers prewritten post somewhere in the middle, so yeah. It's kind of serious, but the last part will be back to fun again. If you want to skip to the end, that's your choice. However, I think it would be cool if you were to read all of it. Here's what they have to say:

Also, it might be a little longer of a post lol

DISCLAIMER: THERE WILL NOT BE 95 OF THESE

Also, I don't need you all thinking that this is some sort of rebellion, this is simply going to be me, the person writing this, saying some things that need to be said. I came to the conclusion that this route would be the best way, as I am, in fact, a guest speaker, and you will not be able to trace it back to me. Dominic is aware that I am posting, and I have cleared the subject matter with him. Thank you folks, and enjoy.

So, as a resident of the dormitory, I have a few matters of contention that should be brought up. Not all of you will enjoy hearing them, as some of you reading this do, in fact, hold positions in said dormitory. That being said, if you're one of them, or close to them, and are easily offended, think twice before continuing. You've been warned. :D

RA's: RA's are resident assistants in the dorm. Each person is selected the school year prior to the one in which they serve. There is a whole application process that they have to go through, and the dean who decides, who has been here for fourteen years, then sits down with them and either turns them down or offers them a job for the upcoming school year, often times providing a reason for either result.

  1. I know more than one person that, being well-experienced and well-suited for the job, did not receive a position, or an explanation as to why.

  2. I know of multiple positions in the dormitory that were filled by those very ill-suited for the position. People with an utter lack of experience in the given area, and a knack for getting easily frustrated, received jobs directly involving customer-service. Another person or two, with horrible disciplinary skills, now take the lead of entire hallways of rowdy teenage males, much to everyone's demise. There are jobs in the dorm dedicated to doing what the deans themselves are supposed to be doing.

  3. I might just be paranoid, but it appears as though, to myself and multiple other consulted residents of North Hall, that the majority of those selected were already part of the new head deans clique the year prior. Many of those picked would head over to his house on different weekends, or were already super close to his children, that attend this same school. While this may not be concrete evidence against such a theory as the RA's being picked by association, I find that it leads one down more than a few rabbit-trails in the mind; none of which end up anywhere near an equally based selection when referring to the hiring of the dormitory staff.

  4. I seem to recall the RA's being a team in the past, working with each other to up the dorms morale, and bring fun activities and such. That having been said, this current team is in no way functioning as it should be, even from an outsider's standpoint. I am consistently hearing them speak of each other rather... unkindly... behind their backs, saying that they think they can do no wrong, or that they just need to be quiet and do their job, etc.

  5. I was, and am, under the impression that those selected for these stated positions, had been observed in the year prior very closely so that there would be no misjudgments made. So then, when looking at the past year, why were the ones who hit meat in their dorm rooms (contraband) selected, while those who didn't, weren't? Why were those who were caught with their phones (also contraband) selected, but those who hadn't, weren't? Why did those with poor records in regards to lights out (10 PM) selected, but those who didn't, weren't? All good questions, with not as many good responses.

So, that's not 95, but that having been said, they are some rather good points that need to be talked about. I will let you get back to your scheduled blog post. Thank you for listening.

So that was a lot of information to take in wasn't it? For those who didn't read it, that's cool I guess. He's the one offended, not me..

Anyways. this is already pretty long, so I'll probably just finish my cool thoughts in another post here pretty soon. See you on the flip :D

In reading this post I see many points I agree with. Yes, the RA group was nowhere near the standards that should be asked for at a school that strives to do their best. Yes, some of the RAs were not fit for the job in the first place but every year there is an RA like this but they still work well as a group. Why was it different this year? My answer is that keeping a strong RA group falls to the dean. The dean should be stepping in to help the RA students and the regular dorm students. But no, not this dean. I remember going into his office at the beginning of the year and talking…

Dear Override,

1. Love your writing .. keep up the awesome word choices !!

2. Kudos to you for being so aware of all that's been going on -- that's an excellent skill to have !!

3. You're right, those things all need to be talked about.. I sincerely hope that u can do that . Not sure if anything can be done about this year, but at least u will have used your voice regarding your opinion, another important skill !!

4. I always told my kids, that whenever they saw someone doing something they didn't agree with, rather than control that person's behavior, they could only promise themselves that they would never do those things themselves... Thereby living…

Well Dom, since you blocked my other account I'll just comment through here. To begin with, I am well aware that you were not the writer of this blog post. Second, I am in no way, shape, or form, salty about this and I was actually humored by it (hence the lol :D).
