The Rubble or Our Sins?

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

I kinda backed myself into a corner as far as saying I would be posting tonight, so if you feel at any time in this post that I didn’t think through this topic, it’s mostly because I didn’t.

Also, my elbow. Not that you care, but there’s something on my skin thats making it itch. Bit smaller than an annoyance. Just kind of there, laughing at me. Moving on.

Also, the title is from Bastille’s song Pompeii, so that’s a little different from the way I do things, what with the older music I typically reference and all… The song is super unique if you listen to it. Expertly done. Ask Francesca, my sister. She was listening to it, and I was like, “Wait! I have something!” Somewhat because they were somewhat deep lyrics, but also because I had nothing else at the time.

Anyway, on to the topic. There’s a specific lyric in the song that says: “Oh, where do we begin? The rubble or our sins?”, which doesn’t really seem all that deep at first, until you think about it. Let me do the thinking for you for a second. This is of course open to interpretation, considering I’m not Bastille, and don’t know what every single one of the lyrics mean. But you knew that....

So, this is referencing something bad happening and the way that they’re supposed to react to it, or otherwise handle the situation. Whether it be something that they caused, or something that was way out of their hands, for example, the destruction of Pompeii, they still have to deal with the consequences somehow..

First example, say the government pulls an act of antidisestablishmentarianism because the church refuses the fly an American flag or somethin wack like that. That’s the churches fault, and it’s their choice which route they wanna take.

Second example, it IS your fault something disastrous happens, and it ends up affecting a bunch of different people, and it’s all on you. You have a choice to make.

Do you start by trying to fix the problems you now have with those affected by your decision? Or do you tackle the entire scenario starting from within, and work out whatever sins are holding you down before working on fixing anybody else?

Let's throw in some math, because this wasn’t fun enough already.

-1 and -1 aren’t going to be any closer to the positive side of the number scale if you combine them.

1 and 1 are both already positive, so there’s no need for either to be worked on, or tried to be brought closer to the positive side of the scale, because it’s already on it.

As soon as you make either one of those numbers a negative, while keeping the other number a positive, they can help each other out.

The broken can’t help each other. There needs to be at least one positive factor for healing.

Also, let’s talk for a second about guys. There was a Kurtis Conner video on YouTube titled: “Are Guys Really Trash?”, and let me say this. Guys with the last name of Fieri, are most certainly not. Anybody who can make a full buffet with like, garlic salt, pumpernickel bread, and a singular ice cube, is to be treated like a national treasure. Everyone else, keep reading.

Most of them.

A lot of them are pails full of trash. Not all of them, but a lot of them. A lot of guys today don’t stand outside your window waiting for you with a boombox like John Cusack. They don’t plan for weeks in advance just to spend a day away from school with you like Matthew Broderick. A lot of guys today only want what almost every guy wants, and that’s it. Also, they’re afraid that if they compliment a girl, it means they’re weak, or that people will think they’re head over heels for them. Let me tell you man.

It’s not that deep.

Look at me. I try to give compliments where and when deserved. If I think you look good, I’m probably gonna tell you about it. Do I have a girlfriend? Nope. Complimenting somebody isn’t going to kill you. Tell somebody how you actually feel, even if it’s not a proclamation of love. Be a gentlemen. Ladies are to be treated like ladies. Or if you’re not heterosexual, treat others like you would want to be treated. It’s not that hard..

On that note, I’m calling it for the night.

Also, everybody who submitted something for Word Sneak, it’s in there. If you can’t find it, look harder. -.-
